Lewis Hamilton's joy and satisfaction at Rwanda being awarded the Formula 1 Grand Prix

Hamilton also spoke of the liberation of Congo, and he is right. Today, the DRC is a country colonised by a small group of thieving, manipulative Congolese. The Tshisekedi clan plunders, kills, oppresses and destroys Congo, a country rich in natural resources whose people live in extreme poverty.

Despite the half-truths and outright lies peddled by the propaganda press of the Kinshasa regime, which, out of jealousy, has voiced its opposition to Rwanda being awarded the Formula 1 Grand Prix, several African countries have congratulated Rwanda for bringing honour to Africa and beyond. In a Pan-Africanist gesture, Rwandan President Paul Kagame has decided that the race will be named the "AFRICAN GRAND PRIX".

Following the Kinshasa government's disapproval, its journalists and propaganda outlets went so far as to distort the words of the legendary Lewis Hamilton, in a bid to mislead the public into believing he was opposed to the Grand Prix being awarded to Rwanda.

In fact, a ten-year contract has been signed with Rwanda to host a Grand Prix. The new circuit is due to be built in Bugesera, close to the new airport, some 40 kilometres south of Kigali.

At a press conference on Thursday, two days before the United States Grand Prix in Austin (Sunday, 9pm), Hamilton expressed his delight at the announced return of F1 to Africa, in Rwanda, in the early 2030s. "Now I'm going to have to stay on longer (in F1), because we're going to have a race in Africa! It was my dream to have the chance to race in Africa," said the 41-year-old Briton, who has long campaigned for an African round to return to the calendar.

Speaking about Rwanda, the seven-time world champion said: "Yes! I'm going to keep fighting to stay in shape, if I can. If I can deliver good results next year, I'll carry on.

“Hamilton also spoke of the liberation of Congo, and he is right. Today, the DRC is a country colonised by a small group of thieving, manipulative Congolese. The Tshisekedi clan plunders, kills, oppresses and destroys Congo, a country rich in natural resources whose people live in extreme poverty.”

Rwanda is a source of pride for us Africans, and therefore for us Congolese too. We would do well to copy its model: a country that was mired in extreme poverty in 1994 is today among Africa's best performers on good governance, security, entrepreneurship, human rights and access to new technologies.

"No one can take advantage of their own wrongdoing." The Kinshasa regime would do well to focus on the issues that elude it, namely the wellbeing of the population and, above all, honouring the Washington agreement without hypocrisy. That accord demands, first and foremost, the neutralisation of the FDLR. Sadly, as of Saturday 24 October 2026, the FDLR remain embedded in the Congolese army, which benefits from billions of dollars in support.

“At home in the DRC, the government struggles to fund and support the national football league, yet it is this same regime that objects to its brother nation Rwanda hosting the Formula 1 Grand Prix. If ridicule could kill”
