Crisis in Eastern DRC: Évariste Ndayishimiye, the Killer Sorcerer Playing at Being Pope

Burundi today hosts a rear base and training camp for Rwandan FDLR genocidaires allied with Kinshasa, while its airport is also used to launch drones that bomb and massacre innocent civilians in eastern DRC.

In his latest outburst in late September 2026, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Burundian President and current African Union chairman Évariste Ndayishimiye told France 24 that the situation between Kinshasa and Kigali remained at a complete impasse.

He decried the absence of tangible progress towards resolving the conflict. He demanded the fulfilment of commitments to withdraw Rwandan forces from Congolese soil. He insisted that Rwanda must show genuine positive signals if peace is to return to Congo.

Yet Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye who took refuge in Rwanda at the time of the genocide, and whom several sources say took part in the massacre of Tutsi in 1994 is currently in a military alliance with Félix Tshisekedi's regime in Kinshasa.

His army is massively deployed in eastern DRC and stands accused of committing appalling massacres against Congolese Tutsi populations, the Banyamulenge, in South Kivu.

Burundi has today become a co-belligerent in the Congolese crisis, but also a genuine arsonist: the ruling circle in Burundi receives tens of millions of dollars every month from Kinshasa, in exchange for its army's involvement in the war in eastern DRC against the Congolese politico-military movement AFC/M23.

It should be noted that the Burundian population lives in extreme poverty, and the country is regarded as the poorest in Africa. Numerous Burundians who have sought refuge in Kenya have been crying out, in vain, for their government's assistance to be repatriated to Burundi, following statements by President William Ruto.

The money generated by this criminal outsourcing of Burundi's army to eastern DRC lands in the pockets of ruling dignitaries and certain army generals, funding in particular the opulent lifestyle of the presidential couple, Évariste Ndayishimiye and his wife

The Burundian president has no credibility whatsoever to lecture anyone on the Congolese crisis, from which he himself profits economically. This is immoral and dishonest on his part, and should international justice ever pursue those responsible, Évariste Ndayishimiye would surely be among them.

Burundi today hosts a rear base and training camp for Rwandan FDLR genocidaires allied with Kinshasa, while its airport is also used to launch drones that bomb and massacre innocent civilians in eastern DRC.

Évariste Ndayishimiye has also recently played a manipulative role once again, inviting Congolese opposition figures from the C64 coalition to Burundi for the sole purpose of cutting short their momentum for popular mobilisation against the constitutional change sought by his ally Félix Tshisekedi to entrench himself in power indefinitely.

The Burundian president is a fisher in troubled waters who, unfortunately, fancies himself a saint. His people languish in extreme poverty and find themselves forced to flee to countries across the region in search of survival.
